Sometimes you encounter situations so horrifically bad that you can't help but burst out chuckling. It's like your brain tries to make sense of the sheer level of destruction and just resigns itself to fate, opting for a weak, desperate giggle as a coping mechanism.
But then, you suddenly become aware that it's not really funny. It's just plain horrifyingly awful. And the laughter you were experiencing morphs into a wistful, melancholic sound.

Or were we just simply unfortunate enough to witness this spectacle unfold?

Awful Day Ever
It all started with an case of morning hair. I couldn't figure it to look decent. As I was scrambling out the door, I trippedover and with a thud all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was totally late for a very important appointment.

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
